Smoking ban

Smoking ban starts today. Woo-hoo!

I apologise to my friends who do smoke, because really I do support your right to smoke if you want to, but unfortunately not all smokers are as considerate as you - therefore I am supporting the public ban. When I dine out I do not want some idiot diner lighting up a fag just because he or she thinks it would enhance the flavour of my food. I do not want to walk up the high street when someone puffs his or her disgusting ashes at me. Smoking revellers is the main reason I do not go out to the clubs and pubs as often as I would like to. I hate returning from a night out smelling like a hobo. It is frustrating and it pisses me off.

So yeah, despite the smoking ban eradicating the rights of smokers, I welcome it.

On no account should a total smoking ban be allowed ! That is pure fascism, those who are trying to enforce it are pure fascists, and as such are dangerous and should be fought tooth and nail as any dangerous fascist should.

The solution to the smoking/non-smoking problem is to have separate areas. That works perfectly well and there is no valid reason to change it. There is a lot of medical propaganda about smoking that is unproven or false, notably on the subject of passive smoking.

It is pure humbug. The rights of smokers are just as important as those of non-smokers and let no-one say otherwise. Hitler singled out the Jews in the 1930’s just like people are singling out smokers now. It is very very dangerous and these people must not be allowed to get away with this, if only because it is an open door to other things ………alcohol, fatty foods, car exhaust fumes etc etc. Rail Travel is dangerous, air travel, cars on the road.

You could argue that anything is dangerous and that it should be banned. The argument just doesn’t make sense. I have not one iota of doubt in my mind that these would-be banners are wrong and they must be stopped.

The other thing, the most hypocritical thing of all, is that if cigarettes were really as dangerous as they would have us believe, then their sale would be banned, wouldn’t it ? Ah yes, but there is too much money involved. Cannabis, which is not dangerous at all, is banned ? Why? No-one knows, but it does containes less dangerous products than tobacco.

All this goes to prove that the government are a load of hyprocrites and should in no case be listened to. It’s time the public stood up to these people who really take them for a bunch of idiots.

I am invoking Godwin's Law. Your arguement falls flat.

To anonymous: Yeah, you have the right to do whatever you want... provided you don't harm other people in the 1st place.

And when you raise MY risk of incurring lung cancer via passive smoking (of which there is a proven link), of polluting MY atmosphere (gee, didn't know the non-smoking.smoking section barrier could separate AIR), and worse of all, RUINING MY HAIR! I'm sorry, I say you can go fag, I mean, fug yourself... Just don't take me along with you, and that is precisely what this ban seeks to enforce.

As for profit, for goodness' sake, do you know HOW MUCH the NHS pays to treat the various conditions related to smoking? From lung cancer, to COPD, to asthma... even to bleeding BLADDER cancer... not to mention lost time & productivity... do you honestly think the sin-tx on cigarettes can make up for all that??

To Jon: Sorry to be ranting on your blog, but honestly, I don't see how this ban can be a bad thing to anyone except the smokers, and it ticks me off so much when I hear this sort of ridiculous opposition to what obviously can only be a good thing. (Now, if only we can think of a way to save children of selfish parents who smoke in the house...)

If you ask me, instead of you apologising for inconveniencing them, I think it's time they apologised to US for having tolerated their addiction, along with its nauseating consequences all this while.

And back to anonymous: Call me a fascist. I prefer to think of myself as a medical student :P

Finally England follow suite after Rep. Ireland, Scotland and Wales eh? Now no more idiots can be smoking in train stations anymore and at least this time they don't need another King's Cross fire to stop people from smoking in public places.
